Water

(So I guess it has to start somewhere...who'd of thought it would be me.)

How much water do you all have stored in case of emergency. I think I have 3 gallons. I've heard that this is not nearly enough...especially when you include enough for all my animals, etc. I've also heard that water goes "bad" after six months-it is hard to keep replenishing my supply. Does anyone else have water reserves? Food? Does planning for a "what if" scenario define me as a "worrier"? I don't think it is good to be a worrier.

I have nothing saved in case of emergency. I guess I'd just die or come over to your house.

No, bananafish. You can come to my house. remember the old Rosemary Clooney (George's aunt) song, "C'mon a my house" ... well I say that to you in spades, both of you whoever you are. hmmmm.

I have been thinking about this lately as well - we have no water or canned food or anything. We'd be completely screwed. We did go out and buy a cat carrier for Motor one day, that is the extent of our emergency planning. I am planning to clean out the basement a bit while Ryan is out of town, maybe I'll clear up some shelf space for emergency supplies. I don't think it makes you a worrier - I mean if you start building an underground bunker I might be concerned, but I think providing a minimum level of supplies and maybe getting a generator or something is realistic.

We also would die. We have more wine stored in the house than water. At least if the shit hit the fan we'd have a good excuse to drink the few "nice" bottles I've got in the basement.

I agree with DBD, it's not paranoid. What if Mt. Hood explodes or (more realistically) there's an earthquake or an ice storm? When I was growing up there was a massive ice storm and people were without power for weeks. Bad news! Especially if like me you were stuck in the house with your sister, mother, mother's boyfriend, and grandparents.

We do not have a supply of water or food either. My man had a dream recently that our basement contained a secret tunnel which lead to the nearest shopping mall where we could eat all of the tacos and pizza that we wanted.
